Pat joined TACC in 2020 to work with research institutions to design, develop and deploy data services for large collaborations. Prior to joining TACC, Pat had a multi-decade career leading the strategy, design, development and adoption of global software and SaaS initiatives. Early work in distributed computing architectures and communication subsystems included development of network connection protocols and the first mobile digital cellular implementations. This led to later work developing transaction and security protocols for global banking and e-commerce.

A long-standing desire to support the rapid improvement of healthcare and wellness practices led to multiple projects working with healthcare institutions, platforms, and data systems beginning in 2005. Pat’s work at TACC supports this goal through developing HIPAA-compliant platforms for the collection, de-identification, and transformation necessary to prepare high-quality data for research, AI-driven analysis, and discovery. Accomplishments include developing/implementing a cross-institutional biosample management system, the Virtual Biosample Repository (VBR), and a CFDE-compliant data architecture which supports active longitudinal studies for the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Current Projects

  • Texas Childhood Trauma Research Network (TEXASCTRN.ORG)
  • Acute to Chronic Pain Study (A2CPS.ORG) and Virtual Biosample Repository (NIH)

Areas of Research
