PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is not an HPC internship, this is a Science Gateways focused internship. Skills will be focused on working with and learning about science gateways, tools and technologies related to Science Gateways, both front-end and back-end capabilities.
  • This is an IN-PERSON internship in Austin, Texas. You are expected to be available for the entire 9 weeks in Austin. Travel to Austin and housing on UT campus dorms will be provided.
  • For students with a visa, please confirm with your school to ensure this does not impact your visa program. SGX3 is not responsible for the impact to your visa status. This is NOT considered employment but a scholarship opportunity.

About the Internship 

The SGX3's Workforce Development team will offer a summer program aimed at graduate students. This 9-week, full-time internship, hosted at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and funded by SGX3, offers a rare chance to gain hands-on experience in software development within the dynamic Advanced Computing Interfaces (ACI) group. Eligible applicants include graduate students majoring in computer science or computer engineering (or related fields). The student will be funded by SGX3 to join the TACC science gateway team for the summer, working on live, impactful gateways and gateway infrastructure. Each student will also receive impactful mentorship from TACC researchers and opportunities to grow their leadership skills. 

  • Duration: June 2 - August 1, 2025 (Move in day: May 31st, Campus Tour: June 1st, Start Date: June 2nd)
  • Availability: Full-time commitment, 40 hours/week
  • Financial Stipend: A stipend of $5700 will be provided
  • Focus: Practical experience in software development for Science Gateways and Cyberinfrastructure

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Graduate Student
  • Experience with Python, computer science, coding boot-camp, or similar hands-on instruction in web development, programming or scripting experience in any language
  • Experience with Bash, Django, React, Java, JavaScript, Jupyter, Jenkins, Agave, and REST APIs, QA Testing and/or other programming highly desirable
  • Experience with Docker and Containerization
  • Experience working with version control, preferably Git
  • Experience working with the Linux command line interface
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented
  • Must have the ability to work independently and follow directions
  • Professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment - Monday, Wednesday in office plus third day of candidates choice. Two days remote.
